Casey,

I have the 9' Glen Martin tower up on my flat top roof which is 44' above
ground. I have an 18' aluminum. 1/2" wall. 2" OD high strength mast
with a Cushcraft 402CD about 3' below the top and a A4S about 9" above
the mast bearing. I am very pleased with the whole system and give the
Glen Martin high marks for quality and finish.

Right now I have the tower bolted into a 2" deck with 6" stringers which
are bolted in my roof. This arrangement has survived some pretty
terrific winds since my QTH is right on the Ocean (Casey Key Island) off
SW Florida. I have watched the whole antenna flex in 50+ winds and
nothing has yielded a bit except the 402CD managed to move about 12"
down the mast. I have since tightened it up. I do plan to install two
panels of 3/4" marine plywood on top of the decking and use some aluminum
stringers to further distribute the windloading on the deck when I put up
my TH7DXX this summer to replace the A4S.

I also have an R7 up on the roof but can't report the dramatic difference
in favor of the beams that Steve reports with his installation. On 40,
the beam gets 1 S-unit over the R7 and just a shade more than 1 S-unit on
20. Of course the R7 is working over the ocean here at about 102' above
sea level and works like gangbusters!

Go with the Glen Martin. You'll not be sorry.
