The series-section transformer has been in the ARRL books since its first
publication in QST in 1978. Frank Regier, OD5CG, performed the most
complete analysis of this technique, showing also that it absorbed the 1/4
wl transformer as a special case of the general technique. The examples
in the professional literature are more encompassing than the QST
article, but the Chapter 26 Antenna Book description gives all the
information needed to perform almost any transformation needed--and not
just with coax, but with any of the transmission lines available.
