W2PV in a series of articles many years
ago compared several "options" with
heights, yagi size, etc as to station design.
Such as a large 7 el single yagi verses say
a stack of two smaller yagis, such a 2x 3el ...
He showed a chart and mentioned several points
which are still true today, and that is why AA4NU is
"optioned" out the way it is ... as are MANY other
stations that are represented on here.
Substitute the KT-34XA for the 7 el yagi, and the
pair of A3 or A4S for the 2x 3 el yagis .... and I
think you have the answer to the question ...
My summary of W2PV article ? It's easy ...
Using 2x smaller yagis means:
More options + less maintenance = MORE FUN !
N4KG has also stated the BENEFITS of more
than one antenna per band at different
heights ... Thomas is correct, just as W2PV was.
As to the 25g verses 45g, NO question ... 45G
is the route to take ... Whatever "extra" it costs
you today, you will save "2xextra" in a few years
when you take the 2xA4S stack down and then
replace them with some "real antennas"<grin>.
Invest in your contest station of tomorrow, TODAY.
You can thank all of us in a few years when you
can dream big and hang LARGE antennas on
that 45G ... and still sleep well at night ! QSL ?
