Rhombics can definitely work with metal supports. They had a whole antenna
farm of rhombics at the old Voice of America site in Bethany Ohio, and all
of them were supported by metal towers.
They used to give tours of this place in conjunction with the Dayton
hamvention. The feds closed it down a couple of years ago and I don't know
if any of those antennas are still there, but it sure was an awesome thing
to look at, and obviously it worked!
