I've had very good luck with the coax coil baluns. These are similiar
to the old "Collins" balun design from the 50's. A newer version was
designed using RG-142 teflon coax and written up in HAM RADIO magazine
back in the 70's (don't have the copy of the article handy). When the
W3GM multi-multi was in operation, we replaced all the BN-86 baluns
with this teflon coax type. Never had a single balun problem after
that and we had 7 yagis that used baluns. We used to lose a couple of
the BN-86 type every year (lightning, water, loose connections)
Have also used the ferrite bead-on-coax type with great success.
As I recall, K1EA (where K1AR wins DX contests from) uses this type on
all of his stacked arrays. They have been known to be S-9!
BTW, I am presently using two of each type of balun at my home station.
