Hello TowerTalk Dudes,

I'm confused. What is LMR 400 and 900? Is that 75 ohm stuff used by the
cable TV industry?

I have used the 1/2 and 3/4 inch hardline stuff with good success. If you
are going to use any that is made up using braid (with or without foil
shield) that it has been impregnated with some kind of goop to keep water
from wicking into it. I have seen some that used silicone grease. Some
that used some kind of goop I was not able to ID.

Also, at least the stuff I ran into, the shield was made of stainless steel
braid. You have to use a crimp type connector with it, because there is no
way you are going to solder to it.

Those needing connectors for hardline can drop a note to Charles Davis
AD4KT. His Email address is cdavis@hal.physast.uga.com. Also might want to
talk to him about connectors for the braided types of low loss cable.

I have never played around with any of the braided stuff other then RG/6.
You use standard F series crimp connectors with it. Any of the other sizes
I do not know what to use for connectors. If I had a large amount of larger
then RG/6 stuff, I guess I could mooch a few connectors off one of the cable
TV guys. At least find where they get them.

It is just that the 1/2 and 3/4 inch hardline stuff is so common, and free
for asking, that I have not really attempted to make use of the braided
stuff. Always left it behind in the scrap heap.

Any time folks start talking about coaxial cable, I perk up, and save the
comments. Always interested in other folks ways of doing things and making
use of 75 ohm cable.
