Last time this thread came up, many recommended use of a portable butane
soldering iron. The most popular brand was Solder-It
(http://www.solder-it.com), at about $40 (BT-50). They have a good
assortment of tips, including a 6mm chisel. There's also a hot air blower
attachment that's execellent for heat shring tubing. I got a BT-50 and it's
great -- well built and works very well. They also have an $80 heavy-duty
model if you do a lot of this sort of thing. Radio Shack and Weller have
similar products, but I think the Solder-It line is better. Consensus was
also that you have to keep these irons shielded from the wind as much as
possible.
