Difference between EHS and Phillystran Guy Grips:

The construction is quite similar for both types of grips but the ones for
Phillystran are several inches longer and much larger in diameter for a given
breaking strength. For example, 1/4 inch EHS with a 6000 pound breaking
strength rating actually is 1/4 inch in diameter; equivalent Phillystran,
rated for 6700 pound breaking strength is close to 3/8 inch in diameter.
Obviously you would never be able to wrap a 1/4 inch grip onto a cable this
large. The Phillystran grips were engineered by Preformed Line Products to fit
the various sizes and to hold to the rated breaking strength of the cable.
They are longer because that is what it takes to hold the cable to rated
strength. These grips are sold as a proprietary item only to Phillystran and
are manufactured in very small quantities compared to steel grips. Because of
the larger size, longer length and small production quantities, these grips
cost a lot more than equivalent grips made for steel. Also, the proprietary
distribution adds one extra level of markup in the pricing structure. In other
words, we can purchase steel grips directly from the factory and get better
pricing and freight allowances than Phillystran grips which are purchased from
Phillystran and includes their markup and added freight costs to our warehouse
in Plano.

There is the straight skinny friends. Hope this helps anyone interested in
understanding these issues.
