....go out in your yard and place a yard stick on end...note the time when
its shadow is a yard long in the afternoon.  This is when the sun is at  the
right angle to give you a shadow equal to "h"eight......at this time
measuring the trees shadow will give you a guesstimate....unfortunately,
trees have some width to them so it won't be "exact" but at least you will
know if they are 30 foot or 50 foot tall trees!

That's another advantage of having a tower up....you can eyeball the tree
level horizontally as you climb above them!
