Same here.  I've never used the pencil torch, but I've always used a
drop of liquid flux in each hole to make the solder flow like butter on
the hood of a '59 Buick sitting in the hot Texas sun.  (Wow, I need to
remember that analogy!!)  Makes soldering PL-259's a breeze.  BTW, I
solder them with a 35 year old (at least!!) 100 Watt Weller soldering
gun.
