The controller design is a rats nest; it took me hours just to reverse
engineer the basic functions. But before you spend much time on this, look
for a mechanical problem with the spring contacts in the azimuth indicator;
a slight bend or slippage can stop things cold. These contacts are labeled
SW2/SW3/SW4 in the schematic at the bottom of manual page 16, and 69/71/73
on the exploded parts diagram on page 14.

Good hunting...

My Yaesu rotor just stopped indicating the direction; it's stuck reading 45
degrees though it does turn.

The Yaesu manual doesn't have a troubleshooting section as the others
(HDR-300?) I've had did. Guess that means I need to rely on my keen
troubleshooting skills in the morning!

Any suggestions besides checking continuity and all that?
