Pete: The secret is to turn it on only when you are making a reading.
The built in frequency counter means that you don't have to worry about
warmup drift in the tunable oscillator. I have only replaced the
batteries once in the several years I have had the 259 and I use it a
lot. The oscillator is surprisingly stable, even on 2 m. I feel that
