State Farm also hit me with an increase after I filed a lightning damage claim.
In addition, they are imposing HUGE premium increases on all their Texas
policyholders, this may be a nationwide problem also, for black mold coverage,
since there has been a sudden increase in those claims here.
A few years ago they jumped premiums for roof coverage and accelerated their
depreciation allowances on roofs after we had a spate of hail storms,
especially in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In fact they, and nearly every other
insurance company writing policies in Texas, declined to insure anyone new. If
you bought a different house you could transfer your policy, but if if were
canceled or just didn't like your previous carrier you were basically out of
luck because hardly any company wrote"new" policies in the Dallas Fort Worth
area.
