I went through this a couple of years ago with a TH7. I don't know if the
trap construction is the same or not.
The first trap took me about 2 hours. Once I figured it out, disassembly,
cleaning, and reassembly took about 15 minutes per trap.
As it was a while ago, and I am getting senile, I may be leaving out a
step, so take it for what it's worth :.)
After removing the plastic caps and screws, you need to use a little
brute force. Take apart the element sections of one element. One
section (the second section away from the trap?) fits nicely inside the
trap cover, to act as a ramrod. As one who is right-handed, I did it this
way:
Hold the trap in your left hand, tightly. Bend up the little tabs of
aluminum that holds the screws, so they're out of the way. Take the
element section that fits inside the trap cover in your right hand and ram
it hard against the plastic spacer. The trap should come flying out the
other end, in one piece (along with all the insect crap and grass
clippings, so make sure you are facing the proper way in the wind. It's
pretty sturdy with nothing to break. The force is necessary to free the
plastic spacer from the dimple in the trap cover.
To reinstall it, reverse the procedure, using the element section to get
everything back in. Insert the trap from the end it came out of. You may
want to take off the spacer that will go in last, to help get the one that
enters the cover first, lined up. Then, put the other back on, and you
should be able to get it on the dimple with some gentler pressure from
the same element section you used to take it apart. As I recall, a few
traps I reassembled, I couldn't get the spacer fixed exactly on the
dimple, but it doesn't seem to matter. Just make sure it's not covering a
drainage hole, and that when you rebuild the element, the drainage
holes point down.
