The quad parasitic array was developed at broadcast station HCJB (by Jones) when the tips of their Yaggi (made of 3" aluminum irrigation pipe) transmit antenna melted off in the thin air of the over 10,000 feet elevation from the 10 kW (AFAIR) transmitter.
