You are correct that constructing a self-supporting tower close to a
home's foundation is cause for concern. The forces impressed upon the
antenna find their way to the foundation and to the surrounding earth that
opposes such focres. These forces could cause block foundation walls,
especially, to crack.
The rule of thumb that I've been taught for such foundations is to keep
the closest edge of the tower foundation at least the tower foundation depth
away from the house foundation. That is, if your excavation is five feet
deep, then you shouldn't dig less than five feet from the house. This
implies that the uplift forces on the foundation will be acting upon the
surrounding earth through a forty-five degree angle from the bottom of the
tower foundation.
This design principle does not apply to towers that are bracketed to
homes. That requires a different analysis of the forces as they are
transmitted to the home's walss and frame members.
