I purchased a 20 meter tower from One Man Towers USA in the Fall of 2001.
They, nor Kevin VK4VD have not supplied me with any, I mean ANY, drawings or
engineering analysis for the tower. Kevin refuses to respond to my emails.

I can not recommend anyone to purchase a One Man Tower due to their
unwillingness to provide me with drawings or engineering analysis. The
tower itself is really something to behold. Built like the so call "Brick _
_ _ _ house.

This is the first time I have stated my unhappiness to the world. If you
are able to get drawings, etc.; please let me know and I will reimburse you
for whatever you think is reasonable.

Dwight

Hello All,
I am new comer of this mailing list and Sri if my question maybe has
discussed before,
Here I would like to know the result after antenna KLM KT-34XA upgrade to
KT-36XA ?
I got a info from M2 Antenna Webside which available for upgrade kits.
what's advantage or maybe will increase F/B dB gain ? or etc .... ?
ur comments, info and suggestions much appreciated.

About a week ago, one of the list members was trying to decide if they
would install antennas on the ridge line of some property or on the
downslope of the ridge. I deleted these emails after reading them, but
now would like to ask a question of the op who posted these questions.

Would you please write me back channel at

Hi all,
Just wondering if someone might have the engineering
drawings for the 'One man tower' by VK4KKD Kevin. Or any engineering
drawings ( possibly one with an equilateral triangle) to share with me
for a self supporting tower - with a winch / worm gear arrangement so
that this could possibly be locally made .

Thanks for all the help ,

Well, I way overdid anti rust protection on my mast. So much so that we
did have to scrape away a section of several days of my coating efforts
to fit the mast in the thrust bearing. The first coat of cold
galvanizing zinc paint would have sufficed. In any case, the remaining
mast will never rust in several dozen lifetimes (aint that grand!).
Sherwin Williams has very expensive epoxy urathane coatings that they
use on bridges and inside nuclear reactors and like a knucklehead I
went and treated the whole pipe with a 2 coat application.

As for the inside, the advise I received and followed from Norm of US
Tower was to get a tennis ball or some such thing and stuff it in the
top. Tony Faiola, K3WX and I found a small football kind of toy and the
tower monkey stuffed in the top and sealed it with silicone.

There's more than one reason for this. W2GD had occasion to climb my tower
this fall and discovered that some species of bee or hornet had taken up
residence inside the mast -- he could hear them buzzing inside it when his
head was close to it, while still feet down from the top. Wish I'd thought
of the tennis-ball solution then, because I didn't have a 2" plastic tubing
cap handy. Angering a nest of hornets while 100 feet in the air could lead
to a really nasty experience.

Interesting problem. Often I find yellow jackets and/or red wasps flying
around my tower, even at 150 feet. However, they do not make nests anywhere
I have seen, and I have never been stung. Once, while working at the very
top, a wasp lit on the thrust bearing just as I was about to loosen the
bolts to raise the mast. It just perched there and seemed to be daring me
to put my hands near the bearing. Since I was wearing leather gloves I just
waved him away and went about my business. He did not go very far, and
eventually lit on the far side and watched me through the whole process. A
climber friend of mine said they are particularly attracted to galvanized
steel towers.

Wasn't there a brand of antennas called HORNET a few years back?
Could that have been the reason?

Did you happen to measure the impedance characteristics of the cross talk?
That is, given that the isolation decreases with increasing frequency, it
would appear to be primarily capacitive, as opposed to, say, transformer
style inductive coupling.

Mostly, I'm just curious, but not curious enough to go out and hook up a
relay to a network analyzer, especially if someone else has already done it.

Here's a scenario..
If you had several fairly directional antennas, pointed different
directions, with good isolation (say they were on opposite sides of a hill..
a situation mentioned on the list recently), and you wanted to hook a
transceiver to one antenna, and use a receiver to monitor the other at the
same time, on the same band, and then be able to switch roles quickly.
(Hey, maybe you're looking for your own signal after going all the way
around the world?)

I don't recall exactly what the original post was (it's on another
computer), but wasn't he switching multiple antennas to either of two
radios? Antenna 1 goes to radio A or B, Antenna 2 goes to Radio A or B,
etc. Antenna to the moving arm, radio A on one relay contact, radio B on
the other relay contact.

And, yes, antenna to antenna isolation would be an additional concern.

>

Here's an interesting question... Does it matter if the interfering signal
is higher or lower than the desired signal? Lots of radios have a low pass
filter (not a bandpass), for harmonic suppression, and don't have any thing
else for preselection. A lower frequency signal will blast right on through.
I'd find it sort of amazing that the receiver front end can take a watt out
of band without blocking a lower level signal. That would be a pretty fancy
mixer unless there's some preselection in front of it.

A new tower will be going up soon at my QTH. This will be the second of a
total of four planned for the future. The existing tower is 150 feet
located about 20 feet from the shack window. The new tower will be 130
feet.

What is the minimum recommended distance between towers? I am thinking it
would be nice to hang an 80 meter dipole between the two towers.

TIA
