I would consider that an almost permanent solution, not something temporary
I guess.  That is about what I do for a permanent install except there is a
coat or two of Scotchcote in there.

One thing that does make it easier if you are removing the stuff is to do
the first layer of tape sticky side out.  Once you get the hang of this, it
works pretty well and it is very easy to get that inner layer of tape off
since it isn't stuck to the connectors and coax.

Haven't yet seen anyone mention a single layer of electrical tape, a
layer of Coax Seal and a final layer of electrical tape.  Easy, long
lasting and not difficult to remove if or when needed.
