I am thinking through adding a multi fuel (Gasoline/propane/natural Gas)
conversion for my Craftsman 4KW generator, and wondered what the generator
would consume per hour in the other fuels, and found a good site with full
explantions of how to compute consumption with the other fuels.
Propane seems to be the most practical/long term/safe fuel compared to
Gasoline.
So this site, among a lot of other useful info, gives some useful info,
copied here.
See:
http://www.yamaha-propane-natural-gas-generators.com/fuel_consumption.htm
It requires 2 horsepower to produce 1000 watts of energy per hour under load
Under load, each horsepower consumes 10,000 BTU per hour
Propane contains 92,000 BTU per gallon Gasoline about 110,000 BTU per
gallon
Propane weighs 4.2 pounds per gallon
A very useful resource..
