FWIW,
If this station is operating on 1539 Khz, it is quite close to, but above
the electron gyro frequency, which is around 1450 Khz in Europe.
This brings into effect two issues:
(!) the high absorption of the e wave compared with the 0 wave as you
approach the gyro frequency
and
(2) the well known effect of localised heating of the D layer (300KW ERP)
and the cross modulation effects in high density transmission areas
(sometimes called the Luxembourg Effect)
The claimed "matchng" of the o wave correct polaristaion to the antenna is
interesting and needs further explanation by someone better versed in
ionospheric propagation.close to the gyrofrequency.
