Taping to the boom is fine. I tape to the mast when the boom is not near the
tower but, e.g., ten feet above it. I don't like to have a lot of
unsupported cable hanging up there, blowing around in the wind.

I'm not clear on why you want to tape the coax to the mast. Mine is
taped to the boom, circles around the mast and is taped to the tower.
Never touches the mast at all. By taping to the mast you are reducing
the radius of the circle and I don't see why you would want to do
that.
What does taping to the mast gain you?
