I'm no lightning expert, but I wonder if one or more lightning rods on
your house would have helped? I'm thinking it would be better to
attract the strike to a well-grounded rod rather than let the strike
go where it may and then try to protect against induced currents. I
may be all wet on this and I will defer to the real experts, but it
makes sense to me.
