The prefered method would be to use a pierpin base, but if setting a section 
in concrete this is the method I used.

The extra section gives a much better approach to getting the thing truely 
vertical and you should give the concrete a week or so to cure anyway. The 
guys which could even be bindertwine or simple wire, don't really hold much 
weight or require much strength. They just hold the base sections straight 
during the pour and initial cure.  Note the 2 X 4 frame that holds the tower 
base to keep it from setteling through the gravel in the bottom of the hole. 
I also fitted corner pieces in (not shown) that gave me a hexagonal top that 
was crowned to shed water. It is also the only part that shows above ground. 
I used about 8" of crushed rock in the base of the hole.
