done #1 several times, Yaesu was always good at replacing broken clamps
quickly... one that broke stayed there through a whole winter while the new
ones sat in the shed waiting to go up and never slipped anyway.

Never done #2, and did break one g-2700sdx anyway... ice and wind combo on 6
element telrex 20m at 150' above 1900' ground elevation in wma was just too
much for it.  not thousands of pieces, but it only takes a few missing teeth
to make it stop working.
