1.  It's a modern day, cheap, and more versatile replacement for what 
used to be called a "Church Key".  Not sure how it got that name.


2.   Prying the ends of split elements open.  Stick in saw slot and turn.
      It can even serve as a poor substitute for a screwdriver by 
squaring off the end (still opens cans)
       It's also good for prying clamps open or breaking them off
       In the past (before screw off tops and pop top cans) it aided in 
oiling unpaid help *after* the work.

It can be quite a handy gadget.
