Send it to either Norm's Rotor Service (http://www.rotorservice.com/) or
C.A.T.S. rotor service (http://www.rotor-doc.com/). Usually, these things are
pretty simple but if you're uncomfortable doing it yourself, these guys are
both quite good (I've used both).

Subject: [TowerTalk] Older TX2 repair

Hello, All:

My older CDE TX2 is is stalling after only a few degrees of movement in
either direction, and the direction indicator quit moving.

I checked all the voltages and resistances in the controller, all good, and
made the same checks on the rotor itself, also all good.

I took upper bell off the rotor, removed the upper ball bearing retainer,
found the spur and pinion gears resisting movement after a few degrees.
Then I removed the ring gear, so the motor and gear train could move freely.

In this configuration the motor would turn a bit in one direction before
stalling, and might turn a bit in the other direction, or would stall in
either direction without moving. I made sure the stop lever was not making
contact in either direction. I could hear the electric motor trying to run,
but not making it.

Also, the wipe arm on the pot on top is not turning, even when the motor was
moving before stalling. If I moved the arm on the pot the controller
direction indicator works just fine.

I conclude the motor is toast, possibly because the shaft in the motor is
broken or damaged.

At this point I have gone as far as I feel qualified to go. This seems to
be more than just a loose connection or an easily accessible gear
replacement.

Before I ship it off to Starkville for factory repair, does anyone have any
suggestions? Or will Hy-Gain, Starkville, even work on the older CDE units?
Should I do anything else? Does someone else work on these older units,
perhaps a ham supporting his hobby?

Thanks,
Rusty, NA5TR
