i have one of these verticals - just put it up - and I live in Michigan
and we get nearly the amount of snow you get in Wisc.
Unless a better idea presents itself, I plan to do as DXE suggested
and said some fellows do - put a large plastic bucket (maybe a 5
gallon size - with a hole in its bottom and drop it over the antenna
mast to cover the base. I can do something with plastic and tape
and all (not sure what I will do yet...) and sort of weather seal it.
I am not worried about absolute moisture sealing, per se, as it is
already intended to be outside in the elements, already. But I do
not really want the balun and the coax connections to be directly
buried in snow for three to five months at a time. I think the bucket
idea will work well enough to seal out snow and ice - although it
will not be a perfect moisture barrier, I am sure. I suspect I can
tip it up or raise it a bit on clear, dry days, to air it out so the thing
is not cocooned in a wet "terrarium" environment. I just want to
keep it from being buried in snow if the snow gets higher than
about 8 or ten inches deep.
I AM OPEN TO ANY BETTER IDEAS !!!
