It is VERY easy to discharge the batteries by accident. Virtually
any batteries will run the analyzer just fine, but I'd say the most
critical consideration is to use batteries that won't leak and
destroy it.
There is also a hardware setting that minimizes the discharge
problem.
This analyzer was designed by W8JI, and there are both applications
notes and a calibration procedure on his website. Recommended.
