Creosote is a Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon that includes phenols and
cresols.
(The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has determined that
coal tar creosote is probably carcinogenic to humans. The EPA has also
determined that coal tar creosote is a probable human carcinogen.)
Power companies have not used creosote treated poles in my area for many years
due to the carcinogenic nature of them.
