I added the trombone to a 3-el SteppIR.  It works like it should.

However, you might want to consider a little more mechanical support for
the trombone element before you put it on the tower. The ends sag. This
does not hurt operation, but it looks odd.  An extension to the mast (above
the SteppIR) and some dacron rope (the best you can find!) can be used.
Make a saddle at the trombone ends (tying to each side of the trombone).

Installing the trombone was a pain. The plastic(?) parts that fit over the
ends of the elements were very, very stiff and small screws are used. There
may be a different material now. Mine was more difficult because I had the
tower lowered and tilted, but the antenna still on the mast --- working
from a stepladder.
