I spent 22 years on a full time fire dept and have climbed a 80' and 110'
UNSUPPORTED aerial ladders many times at about 70-80 degree angle.. even
climbed off the ladder and onto roofs in the snow and ice BUT there is
something to be said about weighing almost 300#... those skinny ladder masts
ain't rated for us "normal" size folks, thank goodness!!!!

I have climbed up my mast about 4 feet. I made my own steps out of some 2
inch angle. I bolted and welded some bigger plates so I could install 4,yes
4, u clamps to bolt onto the mast. It sure feels a little nervous up on the
mast but after a bit you just get to the task at hand.
I welded some bolts to the ends of the angle so my foot wouldn't slip off.
  Be safe. Gregg K9KL
