Unless the pulley's are sized for the 1/4" cable they won't fit.  Might 
damage the cable plus might jump off of the pulley...

Is it possible to replace the pulley's with the 1/4" size?  Or, a wild 
guess....  can you use a lathe to increase the groove in the pulley's??
