Since I looked it up for W4EFs benefit.. You might be interested to know
what typical manlift rental prices are in SoCal..
Day rates. A week is usually 3.5 days.
40ft $280-300
60ft $425
80ft $800-900
120ft $1300-1600
Prices vary a bit depending on whether you have 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel
drive, propane or diesel, and whether there's a jib. Prices usually
include delivery to the job site. Uually, they deliver the night before,
and pick up the morning after.. so you get a good 24 hours of work...
ask if they're going to check the hour meter for days.. some places
divide Hobbs meter by 8 or 9 to get days rental, especially over weekends!
You can put (typically) 500 lb in the basket for one of these things, so
one person and a bunch o' junk, or 2 people and not much stuff. But
because it's pretty fast up and down, you can shuttle things (buckets o'
tools) to the top with one person, tie them off, and then go back down
for your partner.
Word to the wise.. take a radio or cellphone up with you, in case you
get stuck (like the engine doesn't restart, or runs out of gas, etc.)
they also weigh A LOT, so make sure your surface can support the
20,000-40,000 pounds. 3/4" plywood on mud just collapses, and the
rental place charges a bunch to drag their lift out of the goop. Once
you tip too far, the engine cuts off, so you can't use the boom to help
or 4wd to drive out.
