I've done the same as K3MM and used the Hygain cast clamp. I haven't had any 
issues with it slipping, around or down.

I use a HyGain cast aluminum mast clamp for my 402CD++ (unpinned). That's 
bolted onto a 2" Chromolly mast. It's been up for 15+ years without a truss 
wire and never a problem. I have no idea if they still make them the same way, 
but probably...
