Good points Bob; you are correct that the mice are becoming a much bigger  
factor--blame the acorns:

DEET isn't a blanket preventative, hence the recommendation on taping  
pants; long sleeved shirts, etc.
 
I have to worry more about yellow jackets here when I do antenna work, but  
we are all correct in being paranoid about this (at least in W1 land)--it 
is a  major illness that is best prevented, or caught immediately.
