I have done both. The paint, no mater how good, cannot last like
galvaniving. Also, painting is a real chore when tower is fully erected.

How long do you want the tower to last?

One of the big issues with re-galvanizing is the the entire tower system
must be dismantled, transported twice, and then re-assembled. Towers can be
painted in place. I figured that quality paint (I used Rust Bullet) that is
used on the steel of offshore oil rigs is certainly a good choise for my
tower.

YMMV

I fall into the "don't paint it if it's galvanized" camp - if the
galvanizing is in good shape, leave it alone and, if it's not, have it
re-galvanized. Spray-on and brush-on cold galvanizing compounds *ARE* paint,
albeit with loads of zinc as the filler, and they flake and chip just like
any other paint will on poorly prepared surfaces. They don't compete at all
with hot-dip galvanizing.
