If I recall correctly, the example of the SO-239 bulkhead adapter I
described was manufactured by Greenpar Engineering, in Harlow, UK.

Greenpar Engineering also manufactured a very easy to install PL259 plug
which included a knurled tube as part of the plug body, the knurled tube
slid between the exterior of the centre conductor insulation and the
interior surface of the braid, with the outer cover of the cable remaining
in place, as the plug was fitted to the prepared cable, the electrical
integrity of the plug body to the cable braid was ensured by means of an
"O" ring which fitted the exterior diameter of the coax cable. The "O"
ring was slid into position over the knurled portion of the tube, and was
tightened by means of clamping two "ears" 180 degrees apart on the "O"
ring, thus reducing the diameter and clamping the braid to the knurled
tube. The clamping tool was a
 simple pair of pincers.

Sadly, Greenpar Engineering seems to have ceased to exist, but I think the
origin of the "O" ring clamping method for coaxial outer braid using the
modified PL259 plug design, was hose clamps used for miniature flexible
tubing, and the manufacturer of the "O" rings, and clamping pincers, was
Oetiker, and that company does still trade.

Sincerely, John. G3JVC/GM3JVC.
