Although Cuba can have high humidity, I don't think marine growth will be a problem on the guys. Anti-fouling paint is quite toxic and expensive and N O T advisable for guys. Marine grade paint intended for topsides would be OK but better to just use Black Dacron rope for the guys and move on to the next issue.

Greetings,

As an alternative, can the steel cable be pre-treated with something like
an anti fouling bottom paint (used on boats)?

Regarding the guy wire resonances debate, I would recommend Douglas you
go ahead and put something up as you planed and see how it works. If you run
into an issue it is easy enough to fix afterwards, when you can.

Sorry - I disagree.

Reason, I have a side mounted antenna, whenever it somewhat faces a guy cable,
the SWR goes up and performance goes down.
Using non-resonate guy cables is also mentioned within many ARRL handbooks and
general RF engineering books.

Using galvanized steel cables is important, verses non-galvanized cable.
Future developing corrosion will result in RX noise and TX interference.

Using solid wire is not recommended due eventual fatigue and breakage. A
multiple strand of galvanized cable provides flexibility and corrosion
prevention.

I have replaced many rusted out guy cable sets over the years on other peoples
towers. A rusted cable is a genuine noise generator.

My personal tower utilizes 1/4" and 3/16" EHS galvanized steel cable.

Towers that I install use 1/4" and 3/16" EHS galvanized steel cable and/or
Phillystran.

OK, I understand 100%. Anyway, if someone here have experiences with solid steel wire...go ahead. I saw few mast installed with solid steel wire (1/4") here...they don´t use clamps, they just twist the extra wire over the "live" side of the wire. 73....Douglas, CO8DM "No creo que haya alguna emoción más intensa para un inventor que ver alguna de sus creaciones funcionando. Glad to hear your experience David...by the way, 1/4" solid steel wire is available here...it is cheaper than 1/4" EHS galvanized wire and sometimes galvanized is not available...David, how do you fix the solid steel wire???...using clamps or any other technic ???...any tips are welcome. I have "TONS" of egg insulators, maybe if i "switch" to 1/4" solid steel wire I can add egg insulators. I will solve one problem but i will introduce another...corrosion will attack the solid steel wire faster than galvanized...Imperfect WORLD...hi, hi... Non conductive materials like Philistran or Dacron are NOT AVAILABLE here.
