I'm the wrong guy to ask -- I've never considered using DINs, because my
station is essentially built out (yes, I do expand it, but I'm certainly
not going to start over -- it took me a long time to scrounge the hard
line and connectors that I have installed). I don't need the ruggedness
that some good engineers have cited as an advantage, and I'm not doing
anything demanding above 50 MHz, so I don't need the precision of 50 ohm
construction that N, BNC, and DIN offer. The only reason I have Ns in my
system is that I could not buy UHF connectors I could buy for the 7/8-in
hardline I was able to scrounge.
I use hard line to minimize the loss in the 350 ft runs to the top of my
tower. I achieved my goal of less than 1 dB loss through 6M. Of course,
I also appreciate the improved shielding that it provides.
