What bands?
If 2 and 440 a simple shorted 2 meter 1/4 wave stub (3/4 wave
on 440) is probably a good solution. Ground the shorted end.
Two or three such stubs separated by 1/2 wavelength may be
somewhat more effective.
Note: a direct lightning hit will destroy the antenna in any
case.

Hello Gents,
I've been asked to help with a vhf/uhf station installation. I was asked "what type,
model etc of lightning arrester should I use"? The antenna is only a fiberglass dual
band vertical and will not be above the tree tops.
This gent lives in the mountains/forest of Idaho.
I've never used one, I just disconnect coax when storms are predicted, but
can't expect him to do the same.
So, what are the prevailing thoughts/suggestions about this?
Thanks so much!
