[WriteLog] procedure for new release

I just started to use WL a few months ago, and this will be the first time I 
download a new release. I assume the files are zipped. When I upzip them, 
will they automatically overwrite the old files, leaving my preferences and 
existing contest info as is, or is there more I will need to do?
