Vern,

I think the answer is "it depends". Writelog keeps only a little
information in the registry using the older "ini file" mechanism for storing
most program level information. The writelog.ini file is stored in the
system directory (usually C:\WINDOWS) and both copies of writelog will use
that one file (same settings). Most of the contest specific information is
stored in the ".wl" file associated with a particular contest.

So, if you install two copies of writelog, the last one installed should be
the one that gets executed if you double click on a .wl file. Both copies
will use the same ini file (window locations, colors, etc.). Either one can
use any of the contest files. If they were different versions and you
installed the older one last you might get some "interesting" conflicts.

I don't think anyone has done a complete list of what is in which file, and
it changes with each version. The bottom line is that you can't really make
two truly separate installations of writelog (or most other programs) one
computer.

Can I install two separate copies of WriteLog, on the same drive
(separate folders), without the Registry influencing one or the other.

I gather that WriteLog does use the Registry when it is installed. I
am guessing cuz I don't know beans about the Registry.

Interested in doing so for test purposes, only.

Vern
