Good catch. I am sure this will be a common error with XP as it has built in
.zip support.

Subject: [WriteLog] Re: the "WL not installed message"

Hi all,

After seeing the email from David VK2DPD, and also trying to get WL up and
running on my own new shack PC, I accidentally came across the answer to the
problem of getting WRITELOG NOT INSTALLED when trying to get either the new
upgrades installed, or the MMTTY plug-in going.

As I use a PC indoors for the internet (56k modem, and it took about 20
minutes to get 10.33!!), I copy the file to a CD-RW and then take that to
the shack PC for installation.

What I did was to open a zip file, and then click on the setup.exe from
there. AND I GOT THAT MESSAGE!

So, the moral of the tale is that you MUST copy the zipped file to a
(temporary) directory, unzip the files to that directory, and only THEN run
the setup.exe.

I know it says all that in the help files, but I only did it by accident, as
I was poking around to see what was in there, and just clicked on the setup
file.

Ron, it may be worth noting this in bold on the WL website? As I am sure I
have seen this query before, and I am sure we will see it again.

Cheers for now
Phil GU0SUP
