I left the writelog recorder on, on my new Dell Dimension 4500 all weekend
and I noticed that the audio files from Sunday are only of a loud hum. I
connected the line-in of the sound card to my Yaesu FT1000MP Mark-V audio
out jack. There is no isolations transformer. I have used this
configuration with my old Micron computer for several contests with no
problems. There are no RF problems in the house and rebooting the computer
seems to temporary fix the problem. Unfortunately I didn't know there was a
problem until after the contest. I guess I should install the isolation
transformer and see if it happens again during a long contest. Has anyone
ever experienced this? In an unrelated incident my parallel port went bad
an hour before the contest so I couldn't send CW. I didn't feel like
building a serial sending device so I didn't use the computer. This would
have been my first contest on the Dell.
