May not be a question of whether it can be done but rather whether it is
smart to do it.

I wonder how many combinations of CT-17/no CT-17, one icom rig/two icom
rigs/
on the CT-17 or not on it, two icom or one icom rig on CT-17 and one
non-icom rig, etc. etc., etc.,

Right now people work with a cheap interface and com ports for rig control
should not be a problem.
