I'm in full agreement.  When at PJ7 I use a laptop with a standard serial
port for rig control and a second PCMCIA serial port to control FSK keying,
Morse keying, PSK and PTT all on a single port.  Details can be found on:

The laptop uses XP for the operating system and proper Morse keying (my
favored mode) has never been an issue.
