Morning Folks..

If you are not interested in WL networking, hit delete now.

I would like to hook an XP machine to a WIN98SE machine running WL Ver 10.47
on both machines.
I would like to be in position to collet data when this networking issue
comes up.

I think the problem can be duplicated by setting up several machines and
connecting
them to a central machine with a large log in it. Each machine is trying to
catchup
at the same time.

I must be missing something, maybe even something simple.

WX3B and I spent some time last night trying to get it to work, no joy, but
thanks
for your help Jim. He is doing some more studying today..

Here the "working" network is just WIN98SE machines, most at 500mhz and
128 ram

The things that have already been done are:

Ver 10.47E confirmed to be on both machines.

In the XP machine:
It is called NEWNEW and is station N

(Long story about the name, but that is what it is)

I can ping the 98 machine and see it in Network Neighborhood.
I can copy "shared" files from the 98 machine into the XP machine.
Firewall is turned off.
Nortons is turned off
Spyware is turned off
The setup instructions were followed and confirmed from the K9JY site
netsetupnt
I get the correct message back
Newbui is allowed over TCP/IP etc. Not sure of all them as I donot have
it in front of me, but they were done, several times.

In the 98SE machine:
It is called MAIN and is station A
I can ping the XP machine and see it in Network Neighborhood
I can copy "shared" files from the 98 machine into the XP machine.

Firewall is turned off.
Nortons is turned off
netsetupnt
I get the correct message back
Netbui is in the Network setup
Packet is available on Com 1 full time

On both machines

Each has a password and is in the same workgroup
All names are 6 charactors or less and passwords are caps and the same
The same contest is started
Register to accept connections on both machines
Link to the network invoked on NEWNEW to MAIN
"Lost connection to MAIN" is the message in the WL Network Status Window
Packet window is brought up
File/Network is invoked, link to MAIN
***LOCAL NETWORK DISCONNECTED*** is the message back.

*Notes
Packet is available on com 1 full time and works if I select Com 1 in
File/Com 1
I can telnet to a cluster OK if I chose that option

If I do the same sequence from the 98 machine
Registered to accept on NEWNEW
Packet hooked up on to com 1 on NEWNEW
Link to the network invoked on MAIN to NEWNEW
"Lost connection to NEWNEW " is the message in the WL Network Status Window
Packet window is brought up
File/Network is invoked, link to NEWNEW
***LOCAL NETWORK DISCONNECTED*** is the message back.

There is bound to be something simple I am doing, but I just cant finger
it out
What am I missing?

Will be happy to call you at your convience or certainly try anything
suggested
back via this medium

Thanks in advance
Take care
73/Bob
