support native LPT ports.
That's not true. Windows 7 (and Windows 8) - both 32/64 bit versions
support native parallel ports. I have a couple systems with LPT ports
on the mainboard that are recognized and used by Windows. However, no
version of Windows from NT on includes a kernel mode driver to permit
port mapped I/O (direct control over the port "bits"). A third party
driver has always been necessary - the difference is that Writelog does
not recognize those drivers where other loggers all appear to have
settled on InpOut32 which works with both 32 and 64 bit systems.

It's my experience WIN7 will support plug-in PCI cards that have LPT ports when
they have their own drivers. I use this method to support LPT ports on a
computer running WIN7 when running a different logging program that still
supports LPT ports.

Back to your issue, I was surprised to see Steve's tale of woe. My limited
experience would tell me an internal card would be recognized by the OS as a
legitimate LPT port. And if that is the case, then Writelog should just issue
requests to the OS, which would instruct the card to behave as we want it to.
So I think it should work.

I said "limited experience" earlier because I have not used an internal LPT port in a
Windows 7 computer. However, I DO have a PCMCIA dual-port serial card adapter I use in my Windows
7 laptop. That card works fine--in Windows 7 and also in Windows 8 for that matter. The OS does
indeed see that as two "real" COM ports.
