Gents, For some reason I am getting higher than normal plate current in a single 3-500Z amp. On 160 meters with 400mA of Ip and 3500 volts under load the amp is only delivering 500 watts of output. O

I forgot to mention that I am getting the same readings with other known good full out Eimac 3-500Zs so it is not the tube(s). Filament voltage measured at the tube socket is 5.22 volts. Lane Ku7i am

Checking the meter accuracy is a good idea. So is measuring the R of the dummy load. Wattmeters can not give accurate readings unless the load is 50 ohms, as checked with a DMM. // Heath cantennas a

This all started when I went to calibrate the plate current meter. That is when I discovered that the plate current was actually much higher that I thought. The dummy load is not an issue since it ha

Lane, What's the grid current, and how much driving power is it getting? If you are driving it harder and getting less output, the tube may be dying. I had a similar situation, and it was due to a ti

5.22 Volts is 0.22V too high. You should consider fixing this as tube life is affected greatly by filament voltage. The 100mA bias is OK. A little high perhaps but quite within spec. You have 3500V,
