I'm hearing a new local RFI source. It produces a 1 second burst of broadband noise at regular intervals of 3.5 seconds. I'm hearing it on 80 through 15 meters. In AM mode, it sounds like it's modula

How close to somebody with a large fenced horse yard do you live? Sounds like an electric fence charger cycling. de AA5CT Jim On Sunday, May 26, 2024, 12:17:13 PM GMT-5, K9MA <k9ma@sdellington.us> wr

I'm in the middle of a city, so there are no electric fences or horses nearby. I was able to hear it with a portable receiver just now. As I was standing near a neighbor's house which seemed a likely

Another possibility - aquarium heater? One of those jobbies that clamps over the edge of the aquarium in a glass tube maybe an inch diameter and 4 or so inches long. de AA5CT Jim On Sunday, May 26, 2

Check for anyone with those "Garden Lights" many of them are using LED's with nasty switch mode power supplies from the usual culprit country.  You will also note many are on a night/day sense charge

I did once track down one of those, but it had the characteristic spectrum of a switching supply. This one emits absolutely flat broadband noise, more like a spark gap. It is on for about 1 second ev

Spectrum screenshot: https://sdellington.us/hr/RFI/24.05.27.jpg Unfortunately, it has now become intermittent, which will make tracking more challenging. 73, Scott K9MA -- Scott K9MA k9ma@sdellington

Well, thinking here is a bimetallic strip feeding a heating element would be broadband,as there is nothing periodic in that like a 35 kHz swticher for instance, Oh - I have tracked down a couple door

Yes, I thought I was getting close this morning, then it went QRT. I've been tracking it with a small 20m loop. I can hear it just down the street in the right direction, but can't find a good null.

I've tracked it down to a neighbors' house. It was easily detected with my VHF tracker.  Unfortunately, the homeowner is not cooperative. The source seemed to be associated with a TV and modem/router
